About

Wayne uses hand crafted methods to create works of the highest standards.

ABOUT

Wayne Mavin is a Sydney-based craftsman who, over the past 20 years, has specialised in traditional joinery, stairbuilding and handrailing.

Wayne’s objective is to use traditional methods and quality timber to create hand crafted works of the highest standards. He works for private clients, builders and architects in the Sydney area and interstate on request.

Wayne started his career in 1989 on the mid-north coast of New South Wales with an apprenticeship in a small joinery shop.

He draws inspiration from numerous craftsmen, some favourites being Edward Barnsley, Alan Peters, George Ellis and John Harrison as well as the unadorned simplicity of the works from Shaker communities in the United States.

Notable commissions have included a six flight geometric stair and handrail, a quadripartite vaulted ceiling in an entry foyer, relaying of antique French floors, solid American maple library in shaker style, and a reproduction Victorian stair with half-space winders and helical v-joint soffit lining.
